Major tasks performed in support of this function:
- Receive and/or review employer delinquent tax files and prepare all documents necessary to
finalize assessment or to send to the Attorney Generals Department to institute or pursue
legal action to collect delinquent taxes;
- Telephone or correspond with employers, TWC field representatives, or others to secure data
for preparation of forms and documents necessary to support assessment or civil actions to collect
taxes and record legal results on TWCs computer master files and controls;
- Maintain control files on assessment, judgment or abstract renewals, prepare and process all
necessary documents to achieve continued security under notice of assessment or judgment; update
computer files;
- Negotiate and/or explain delinquent tax payments, status, and legal actions to employers, TWC
field representative, and other authorized personnel as a result of personal visit, telephone
or written request;
- Audit bills for cost of suit and sheriffs fees for service of citation, assessment, or
execution. Compile records of cost and record costs on TWCs computer master files and controls;
- Develop required case information for issuance of injunction suits, and similar enforcement
actions by the Attorney Generals Department, and confer and coordinate with the Attorney
Generals Department on the status of delinquent employers accounts while litigation
is pending. Secure, prepare, verify, and transmit proof of defendant employers liability
to the Attorney Generals Department and appear as States witness at trial;
- Respond to inquiries from employers, attorneys, accountants, government agencies, trustees,
and others regarding past-due accounts under pending assessment or litigation;
- Conduct training in civil and enforcement actions;
- Train and evaluate unit staff.
