The Texas Workforce Commission (FKA Texas Employment Commission) began assigning
account numbers to regular taxed employers in 1936,
beginning with account number 000,001. In 1972,
changes in the TUCA led to the establishment of
blocks of account numbers reserved for special
categories of employers.
Account numbers for regular taxed employers are
assigned by Entity ID (Revenue and Trust Management), Unemployment Insurance Support Services (UISS)
and Tax Department employees using special screens on the PC. Account numbers above 99-880,000 are
assigned by the Status Operations
Unit (SOU) and keyed by Data Entry before they appear
on the Employer Master File (EMF).
