Paying Your Unemployment Tax

Payment Options

QuickFile provides a remittance page that bookkeepers, accountants and service agents can provide to their clients after filing the quarterly wage reports. The employer can then elect to use the payment option that best suits their business needs.

The following options are available for paying taxes:

Electronics Funds Transfer (EFT)

TWC Rule 815.109(d) (Texas Workforce Commission Rules adopted pursuant to the Texas Unemployment Compensation Act) requires employers paying $250,000 or more in tax liability in a state fiscal year to transfer current tax payments by EFT.  A taxpayer who will not meet the minimum threshold for mandatory EFT payments may voluntarily make payments by EFT.

Automated Clearing House (ACH) debit

The Texas Workforce Commission's Payment Online System is an electronic payment service. This free service enables employers to submit quarterly unemployment tax payments to TWC by using Automated Clearing House (ACH) debit. This means that employers who file their quarterly wage reports electronically no longer have to mail in their remittance to TWC to complete their quarterly filing and payment process.
To use this system, you must register for access to the Unemployment Tax Services system. During the quick and simple registration process, users will create a User ID and password that will be used each time they access the online system. To register and to learn about other online services, visit Unemployment Tax Services.

Credit Card

Submit your quarterly unemployment tax payments using your American Express, Discover, or MasterCard credit card. This means that employers who file their quarterly wage reports electronically no longer have to mail in their remittance to TWC to complete their quarterly filing and payment process. TWC uses the TexasOnline website to provide a secure financial transaction. A convenience fee is assessed for using a credit card for payments. The convenience fee is not part of the TWC Tax payment amount and is not kept by TWC.

To use this service, new users must register for access to the Unemployment Tax Services system. During the quick and simple registration process, users will create a User ID and password that will be used each time they access the online system. To register and to learn about other online services, visit Unemployment Tax Services.

Personal Check, Cashier's Check, Money Order

For all employers not required to pay using EFT, an ACH debit payment, credit card, personal check, cashiers check or money order are acceptable methods of payment for all unemployment insurance tax and related liabilities.

Make checks and money orders payable to "Texas Workforce Commission". Record the employer's TWC tax account number on the face of the check or money order to assure proper application of the payment.

Payments may be hand delivered to a representative of the Tax Department at any of our local TWC Tax Offices or mailed to the Texas Workforce Commission at:

Texas Workforce Commission
PO Box 149037
Austin, TX 78714-9037

Cash

Cash is an accepted method of payment for taxes.

Cash payments may be hand delivered to a representative of the Tax Department at any of our local Tax Offices. A receipt will be issued when a cash payment is made to a Tax Department representative.
